DIY Christmas Stocking Tags

Store-bought Christmas stockings quickly become Personalized Christmas Stockings when you add these fun DIY felt name tags and colorful pompom embellishments!

Personalized Christmas Stockings

I have a confession. I have a slight Christmas stocking buying problem. It might be a pretty significant problem, as every year for past three years I have purchased new Christmas stockings in an attempt to find a set to accommodate my fickle decorating needs. Remember, there are seven members of my family – that means I now have twenty-one unused stockings. TWENTY-ONE. I’ll be looking for a project for THOSE this year!

Personalized Christmas Stockings-different colors

But, you guys, I think I’m finally happy with our stockings! I purchased store-bought cream colored stockings in three different textures. They go with everything! Ask me how much I love them! Go ahead, ask! I LOVE THEM!

The only thing that would make them better is if they were Personalized Christmas Stockings. What I needed was a set of ridiculously fun and colorful felt name tags!

I can’t wait to show you how I made them. Nothing adds whimsy like pompoms and tassels. Color is a must – I’m not exactly a neutral kind of girl – just check out my most recent decorating projects for proof of that! These tags have tons of color, made with my die cut machine; each has four layers of color and loads of sweet pompoms.

To only add to the fun, if you scroll down to the bottom of this post, I’m sharing eleven OTHER Winter Wonderland projects just for your Silhouette machine, so be sure to check those out! For now, though, let’s get started!

HOW TO MAKE DIY PERSONALIZED CHRISTMAS STOCKING TAGS

Personalized Christmas Stockings - Materials

Here’s what you’ll need:

Yarn in at least two different colors
4x 8″x11″ Felt Sheets in various colors
Scissors
Silhouette machine
Pom-poms
Wonder under – paper-backed interfacing

Create the pattern

Create the names in silhouette studio using the font “Yellow Daisy.” If you decide on a different font, remember that the felt is tough to cut, so you want your shape to be large and not too detailed!

Prep the felt for cutting

Adhere the wonder under to the backside of three of your felt pieces by applying a hot iron to the paper backing side of the “wonder under” (the bumpy side goes against the fabric). Put the remaining piece aside. I used acrylic felt, and wool felt – I found no difference in either as far as cutting goes. What I did find helpful was to iron the felt flat on each side.

Cut your names

Now it’s time to cut. Set your silhouette blade to 10. Choose thick fabric for the material, set your cut blade setting to 10, the thickness at 33 and the speed to 2. Lay your fabric on your cutting mat, paper backing side down and smooth firmly to the mat. I found it useful to attach a piece of masking tape along the edge to keep the rollers from bunching up.

Send the cut to the Silhouette. Then, without removing the mat, cut again until you see the cut lines on the backside. You likely will have to do this to her three times before it will cut through.

Put the tags together

Remove the felt from the mat and snip any edges that are attached. Remove the paper backing.

Repeat steps 1-5 for all four felt pieces, including the section without the wonder under backing.

To stack and adhere the name pieces, lay the name piece without the wonder under down on the ironing board, and cover with a interfaced name piece, lining up the edges. Using a hot iron, press the felt pieces together. Add the remaining pieces in the same fashion until you have a stack. Trim edges where needed and thread through with a bit of yarn.

Make the pompom strands

Create the pompom string using a piece of yarn about 12″ long, the pompoms – about 6 of different sizes and colors and a tassel made of yarn. Thread the yarn first through the tassel, then through the pompoms and tie off.

Attach the strands and tags to your stockings

Attach both the name tag and the pompom string through the loop on the stocking.

Hang the stocking and have a fabulous Christmas!

Aren’t they fun?! All that pompom and tassel cuteness has just made my Christmas – or at least my Christmas stockings! So, guess who won’t be buying new stockings this year? Yep! This girl!

DIY Halloween T-Shirt with Ghost Elbow Patches

Learn how to make this adorable Halloween shirt with iron-on ghost elbow patches for your favorite ghoul or goblin for a fun holiday look!

Halloween shirt Ghost elbow patch

Hi, Friends! Thanks for all of your sweet and encouraging comments on my One Room Challenge post last week! Making over this game room has me crazy busy! Taking on such a short term project is SO fun, but it’s not for the faint of heart for sure. Still, I’m not too busy to slide in a quick Silhouette Halloween craft with this fun Halloween t-shirt idea, and I hope you like it! Thank you to Cat from Pocketful of Posies for organizing this monthly challenge! This ghostly garment was a request of my tweenager – something she saw on Pinterest – you’re never too old for Halloween, and I’m always up for recreating a Pinterest creation!

How to Make a Halloween Shirt with Ghost Elbow Patches

It’s been mostly about Fall decor around here, but we’ve managed to slide just the teeniest bit of Halloween decorating in. With our annual Halloween party coming up I’d better get cracking on changing that! Just because the house isn’t looking too Halloween-y, doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t and this cute tee makes it so easy to do so!

DIY Iron-on Halloween Shirt

I started with an inexpensive solid black $8 shirt from Walmart and used printable iron-on vinyl for dark fabric for the ghost, which was already white.

The ghost graphic came from Silhouette and was $.79 once I applied the current Halloween discount of 25% off!

Diy Halloween Shirt

After importing it into my project, it was relatively straightforward and just required cutting.

Once cut, I peeled the vinyl from the backing and applied it to the shirt.

Iron on Halloween T Shirt

I covered the iron-on with parchment and an ironing cloth and used a hot iron (set to cotton without steam) to adhere the ghost. Be careful not to scorch the vinyl!

And that is all there is to it. One point for mom!
