How to Make a DIY Hanging Flower Chandelier Wreath
For your next celebration, whether a dinner party, bridal or baby shower or even a birthday, consider moving your floral centerpiece off the table and up, with a hanging flower chandelier! Maybe you’ve seen a floral chandelier on your favorite blog; perhaps you’ve even Pinned one – today, let me show you how easy (and fun!) these beautiful focal points are to make!
We all know I LOVE a gorgeous table setting, and for me, large, lush centerpieces are the jewel of a beautiful table. You too? Well, then you know the risk of a centerpiece being so enormous, that you can’t see the people across the table from you! Luckily for us, there is a solution – a hanging centerpiece!
For our recent Easter table, I decided to move the action “up” and wow, what a focal point! The hanging flower wreath stole the show, with its abundance of blooms. Using faux flowers ensured it no mess and less fuss. It was a snap to make, and fun, too! With such a simple project, you can add the same elegance to ALL of your celebrations – Let me show you how I made it.
How to Make a DIY Hanging Flower Chandelier Wreath
You Will Need:
- Floral wire – You’ll use floral wire to attach fresh flowers and foliage to your small hoop and large wire frame.
- Flowers and Greenery – see note below for selection ideas
- Wire Cutters
- A Foam ring
- Fishing line – if suspending the wreath outside of chandelier
Flower selections:
I used about 10-12 large blooms such as peonies, dahlias, and hydrangeas and filled in the gaps with smaller flowers such as roses and large chrysanthemums. Other ideas include:
- Pink Hyacinths
- Carnations
- Amaranthus
- Hydrangeas
- Baby’s Breath
- Craspedia
- Peonies
Greenery Tips:
Any greenery with a drooping nature, such as a fern, would be a good selection. I used both greenery stems, as well as a greenery garland that I picked up at Michael’s with a 40% off coupon – love those!
What to D0:
Cut the stems of your flowers and greenery to about 2-2 1/2″ long and divide them into size.
Suspend your form first – it’ll be so much easier! Using four lengths of floral wire, attach your foam wreath form to the bottom of your chandelier, and twist the wire to secure.
Begin by wrapping your greenery garland loosely up and through, and all the way around your wreath form,
Add your greenery stems (drooping) evenly around the ring, by pressing the stems into the foam. Alternate placing them on the top and bottom, beginning to fill in the gaps between the greenery garland.
Now, add your large blooms. Mix up the colors and alternate placing them between the top and bottom of your form, in between the greenery. You’ll want to space them about 5-6″ apart.
Use your smaller flowers to fill in any gaps.
Stand back. Oooo and Awwww. Everyone else will be!
This DIY Faux Flower Chandelier Wreath is an easy project that takes almost no time at all – the impact it makes, though, colossal! Now, that’s my favorite kind of project!
I love this idea! I usually just try to weave stems through the arms of my chandy, I’ve got to step it up, thanks Kim!
