Hi there! It’s hard to believe January is over, which for us means we are sliding headlong into our crazy birthday season… that means every nearly every member of our family was born from now until early June, including extended family. By June I’ll be on a cake-strike… but it’s not June yet, so, for now, it’s all good!
Many years ago I had a little series going called “All That Stuff We Did” that helped to remind me of all that I’d accomplished month to month. It was a great way to show you some of the things you might have missed throughout the month! Somehow I got away from it but have decided to resurrect the series starting this month!
Apart from my new blog design, without a doubt, the $100 Room Challenge took front and center in January, with us transforming our Powder Room, but we did manage to slip a few other things in there as well!
We started off the month with a recap of the Best and Missed posts of 2016. Some of these were your favorites; others were my favorites that just didn’t resonate with you as much!
I got a little bit creative during our month Create with Me challenge, where every month our readers decide on the material we’ll be creating with. Sticks were voted in for January, and I took this entirely to heart, creating this Rustic Twig Art using poster board, glue and framing with some extra pine boards we had laying around after the last OneRoom Challenge.
We boldly took on the challenge to cover the red paint in the kitchen and shared our experiences with Behr Marquee paint – hint: we think it rocks.
I re-posted one of my favorite posts ever – a personal tribute to the great Martin Luther King Jr. The words come directly from my heart, in honor of my little monkey.
On a much less serious and personal note, our pantry got a little make-over and reorganization, complete with Silhouette labels to match. Come to think of it, maybe this post was JUST as personal, as I did share just how disorganized it was to start with.. that is pretty much laying it all out there!
And then there was the $100 Room Challenge! The first week of the challenge I shared my inspiration board which included a lot of bold navy and green pattern with strong accents. Although I started off feeling pretty good about my choices, it was the execution of them that made me second guess myself. In Week 2 I talked about my inability to trust my bold instincts and decided on stenciling a bold navy pattern despite my reservations. In Week 3 I shared a new direction, which in reality meant I was actually just getting started on this challenge, with a week to spare. And finally, after a few late nights and fast food dinners, I shared the big reveal!
Since then I’ve been spending an unnatural amount of time in my bathroom oooing and ahhhing over the pretty after the big reveal!
Although we don’t have quite as big a challenge coming up in February – I need a nap – I’ve started prepping for the Spring One Room Challenge. Around blog land I’ll sharing tons of holiday ideas for both Valentines’s Day as well as St. Patrick’s Day. If you get a chance, stop by and say hey – I’ll be waiting for you!
