My daughter, K, celebrated her birthday last week. I’m one of those annoying parents that throw elaborate birthday parties every year. We don’t go crazy with gifts for our children – in my head; the party is my way of giving an experience or a memory.
But, this year, for the first time, K requested a “simple” party – a non-themed, uncomplicated sleepover. She’s a sweet girl – in so far as a teen can be – and did express concern for my head exploding over the lack of a theme.
Pfft. I know how to do that about as well as Miss K knows why she rolls her teen eyes on an hourly (minute?) basis. And so, to preserve my head – I’m sure it would be rather embarrassing if my head did explode – we added a theme: Fun, Bohemian, but still simple, using florals, flamingo, and pineapple motifs.
I’ll share more details on the party later this month, but today, let’s talk about the Create with Me Challenge and glass jars! Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post for a slew of inspirational ideas to decorate with glass jars and to vote for next month’s project! For myself, I used some old jars that I had around the house for our Boho themed table setting. You might think using jars for party decor is restricted to a country theme, but jars can also be romantic in other themes as well. Romance, eclectics, artistry all say Bohemian. Jars are also cheap, readily available, relaxed and effortless. Here is how you can use glass jars to arrange an enviable Boho style centerpiece.

- Plant the taller succulents and cacti into the jars. Jars of varying shapes and textures can be fun and unique! Fill each jar halfway with aquarium rocks, then place your plants on top.
- Wrap the washi tape around the jar on the line between the rocks and the soil.
- Lay your table cover down.
- Lay out the greenery garland.
- Weave and scatter the flowers from one end of the garland to the other.
- Add the succulents and cacti to the garland, evenly staggering heights and jars throughout the arrangement.
Tips and Tricks
You can also use fresh flowers – Look for large, open blooms and cottage or vintage buds. You can also use greenery clippings from your yard. I went with faux plants from the dollar store and cut the stems with sharp wire cutters, and found the garland at Michaels. Here (affiliate) is a similar grape leaf garland to what I used. I used a burlap runner – I liked the texture and the contrast against the softness of the flowers. Here (affiliate) is a similar table runner to what I used on our table.
The final result left my head intact, my daughter’s eyes un-rolled, and provided a perfect setting for our boho themed table setting and centerpiece. Click here to download these adorable Boho Place Cards.
