Hearty Slow-cooker Chili Recipe

Posted in FAMILY PARTIES, FOOD, PARTIES
on November 8, 2016

On this election day, no matter your political views and whose name you’ll be placing a check mark by, I think we could all use a bit of comfort today. There is not a whole lot more comforting than a hearty chili, especially one that tastes this good. As I make my way through the last day of the One Room Challenge, I’m seeking as much comfort as possible! Be sure to stop by on Thursday morning to see the big reveal of our new game room.

I adapted this chili recipe from a fabulous recipe I found many moons ago on Allrecipes.com. The original is to-die-for, but I’ve adapted it to our tastes and, to whatever we have in our house to put into it – it’s flexible. It’s also the recipe I follow every year for our annual Halloween Party, this year being no exception. I’ve yet to hear anything other than mmm.. oh yummy.. so good.. from our guests! I hope you enjoy it, and I hope, no matter who our new President is to be, good chili will help us all to remember that all will be okay. It always is. Even in the world of the One Room Challenge.

Hearty Slow-cooker Chili

Ingredients

2.5 pounds ground beef chuck
1 pound mild Pork sausage
2 (15 ounce) cans chili beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can chili beans in spicy sauce
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with peppers and onions, chili ready, in juice
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (28 ounce) Baked Beans
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 can (6 ounces) chili peppers, chopped
1 can (15 ounce) sweet corn
3 slices of bacon, cooked, chopped
4 cubes beef bouillon
1 bottle of stout beer

1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco(TM))
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon white sugar

Serve with cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped green onion

Directions

In a large pan, crumble the ground beef and sausage until evenly brown. Add onions and celery and cook until vegetables are translucent. Drain off fat.Transfer meet mixture to a large crockpot. Add remaining ingredients, other than toppings, and combine to blend. Cover and cook on 4-6 hours on low. Serve immediately, or for even better flavor, refrigerate overnight and reheat the next day, serving with your choice of toppings.

Thanks for stopping by!

{Non-traditional} Halloween Tablescape

Hello, and welcome to my non-traditional Halloween tablescape! I’m so excited to share my less than traditional Halloween table setting with you and hope you’ll find oodles of Halloween decorating ideas during your visit.

Many thanks to Chloe of Celebrate & Decorate for hostessing this lovely tablescape hop. She’s gathered together 27 tablescapes that are sure to give you Autumn ideas and inspiration. Be sure to check out the remainder of the tablescapes at the bottom!
If you’re coming over from one of the other fantastic blogs in this hop, it’s so great to meet you! My small family of seven (ha!) moved into this house about nine years ago. The first few years we spent most of our time keeping everyone alive – five is a fair number of kids. After being relatively successful with that, we decided to tackle a few DIY projects. Since then, little by little, we’ve been making this home truly our own! I hope you’ll stay and look around. You might enjoy a few details about our home, or if you fancy, please check out the myriad of projects in the project library.
For now, though, let’s get ready to dine with spooky, yet untraditional style! Be careful, though, to watch out for the spooky creatures that may be creeping around on the table. Shh.. Let’s tread carefully lest we wake them from their naps!
A near-black Dahlia sets the mood. There is such a wildness to Halloween that it is often necessary to have a centerpiece the same. I’ll be sharing the details on this fun DIY centerpiece next week!

This is entirely a casual setting which leaves plenty of room for non-ceramic plates. I picked these up in the Halloween section of Target.
It’s easy enough to add whatever color you’d like to your Halloween decor. There is no rule that says Halloween can only be dressed in orange and black.
Thirsty? I’ve prepared a brew cocktail for you!
Boo! It’s pretty difficult to hide when mercury glass is around!
Thanks so much for stopping by and I do hope you’ll do so again! Be sure to visit the other tablescapes on the hop!

As always, my selected features are all over the map! Maybe it’s the heat or maybe it’s the lack of schedule of summer, but I’m all for easy breakfast ideas and these banana bread muffins wth pecans from Spreading Good Taste are a perfect idea! The no-bake Samoa Cake from Don’t Sweat the Recipe had me at no-bake and kept me at Samoa! But caught my eye was the sweet combination of watermelon and lemon – one I’d never have thought to combine on my own – in this delicious Watermelon Lemonade from Love Create and Celebrate

With only a few simple ingredients, this recipe was a snap to put together. I cheated a bit and used pre-sliced, seedless watermelon, making it ridiculously simple.

This drink was so refreshing! I loved the combination of the sweet watermelon flavor against the tart of the lemonade – definitely a treat for the taste buds!  I skipped the added sugar, and found it plenty sweet enough!

Thank you so much to Lindi at Love Create Celebrate for such a delicious and refreshing beverage recipe!

Please hop on over to Uncookie Cutter for her version of Baja Pasta Salad
